Laura Carter is the bestselling author of the Vengeful Love series. She was a full time lawyer until the book world grabbed hold of her and never let her go. Now, she is a hybrid author, publishing traditional and indie titles. She writes full time from her beach home in the Caribbean where she lives with her husband and (beautiful) dog. She loves all things romance—the more angsty the better—dry martinis and dark chocolate. Genres: Sexy, angsty contemporary romance Author of: Scarred by You; The Vengeful Love series. Website | Facebook | Twitter | Amazon Are you an action, paranormal, or romance type of person?
If I have to pick one, romance. But my books always seem to slip into suspense and action so I’m probably a blend of sexy romance and suspense (well, not me, my books ;-)). Tell us about your latest release. Scarred by You is my first standalone title. It is a darkly sexy, angsty second chance romance. It will have you laughing and crying. And it will also throw you some surprises along the way. Do you have any upcoming releases in what’s left of 2016? Scarred by You has only just released (24 October), so I’m taking some time to hang out with my husband for the rest of the year. Which of your books was your favourite to write and why? I love writing and I have enjoyed writing every novel I’ve finished (there have been a few false starts along the way). Of my published books, I think I enjoyed Scarred by You most because it was an idea I had kept in my mind for a long time and I wasn’t sure how or when to write it. I loved writing dual narrative (male and female) and I loved both Clark and Dayna (and despised them at points too). I also think the book turned out better than I had even imagined, which is always nice :-) If you were stranded on a desert island with one of your characters, who would you pick and why? Ooo, maybe Jackson, from my Vengeful Love series. He’d know just what to do in a crisis. He’s also ex-forces, which would help in that situation, I think. What was your favourite book as a child? The Witch got off at Paddington Station – classic! It’s about a witch who opens her magic bag on a double-decker bus in London and amazing things start to grow out of it. Seriously, you have to read this to appreciate how fantastic it is! Who are your must-read/one-click authors? I love to read new authors and I have an eclectic taste in books but a few of my favourites are Sebastian Faulks, Marian Keyes, Sylvia Day and Meghan March. What book has made you laugh the most? Oddly, The Air He Breathes by Brittainy Cherry had me in kinks fairly recently. It’s a deep book and extremely sad in places. Perhaps that’s why one particular scene had me doubled over laughing. I don’t want to spoil it because if you haven’t read this book you should. But it involves poop and a doorstep. What book has made you cry the most? So many books have made me cry. Two that have destroyed me (and in public) are “Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet” by Jamie Ford (this is actually one of my top three all-time favourite books) and “The Fault in our Stars” by John Green. What is the most romantic thing someone has ever done for you? My husband had two rings that were very sentimental to me melted down and turned into one. He gave it to me as an early wedding present so that I would be able to wear both rings on our big day. What is the wildest thing you’ve done? Climbed a live volcano in Guatemala and walked alongside its running lava. Was the question wild or stupid?! What is your drink of choice while writing? Whilst writing, coffee. I’m a pretty cheap date so my words would be a mess if I drank alcohol – although occasionally I slip up here! Most other times, a dry martini or a glass of champagne for me, please :-) What is your favourite writing snack? Cookies. ALL the cookies. Do you have any pets? I have a gorgeous German short-haired pointer called Rocky…as in the biscuit, not Balboa. If you could have any superpower, what would it be? I’d like to be able to pause time so I can fit more into a day! What is your favourite season? This is funny. I moved from the UK to the Caribbean earlier this year, yet my favourite season is winter. Mulled wine, cheese, fires, thick-knit clothes, starry nights, cuddles all night long…dreamy! Do you prefer night or day? Ooo, I had to pause to think about this… night. I love the stars. Are you a morning person? It depends how I’m spending my morning, ha! There are some very nice ways to wake up, then there are alarm and gym days! Cowboys, fighters, mafia men, billionaires, or soldiers? All of the above. Let me justify this. Scott Eastwood (I’m stretching the concept of cowboy here but Scott starring in the movie of “The Longest Ride”…yum!). Armie, the MMA fighter from Lori Foster’s “Fighting Dirty” is seriously HOT. Mafia men…I can’t tell you why yet ;-) Billionaires…ahhh my Gregory from “Vengeful Love” *swoon*. Also Roarke from J.D. Robb’s “In Death” series and Gideon Cross from Sylvia Day’s “Crossfire” series. Soliders…I hope to be able to tell you why very soon!!!! What book are you reading now? The Silent Waters by Brittainy Cherry. Name 3 books everyone needs to read (excluding yours). “Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet” by Jamie Ford. “Charlotte Grey” by Sebastian Faulks. “The Counte of Monte Cristo” by Alexandre Dumas. These are my top three favourite books. For those who are new to your work, which book would you recommend starting with? Scarred by You has just released and it is my first standalone. I think it might also be my favourite book to date. Am I allowed to say that? Anyway, that’s where I would start. Buuuuuut I do adore Scarlett and Gregory in the Vengeful Love series, especially if you like to get your teeth into a trilogy.
